An innovative model for primary care

The Department of Family Medicine, in partnership with the UC Irvine Health Family Health Centers, the Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine and the Orange County community, has created a residency track to incorporate integrative medicine into a new model of primary care.

Our goals are to improve the quality of life and health outcomes for patients at the family health center and to increase access to integrative medicine resources for Orange County's underserved patient community.

The Family Medicine Residency Program's track in Integrative Medicine (IM) is a unique program designed to offer additional education and training in the diagnosis and treatment of primary care patients using the tools and philosophies of integrative medicine.

David Kilgore, MD, is the director of the IM track and one of the core Family Medicine Residency Program faculty members.

Dr. Kilgore completed a fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona’s Center for Integrative Medicine, as well as courses in acupuncture, mind-body medicine, nutrition, use of herbals and supplements and in strain-counterstrain techniques.
