UCI Family Medicine, in solidarity with the American Academy of Family Physicians, acknowledges racism as major contributor to long-standing health inequities. BLACK LIVES MATTER. Recent tragic events have amplified these unacceptable disparities as a public health crisis.
Healthcare is a human right and must be accessible to all. As a department, our mission has always been to serve the medically underserved. There is still a vast amount of work to be done to address racism and implicit bias within the medical community. We are committed to becoming a resource for community empowerment through active engagement and education. We will amplify and elevate the voices of vulnerable populations whenever necessary. Lastly, we will continue to advocate for a just and equitable society wherein all will receive the dignity and health care that they deserve.
