COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Department of Family Medicine has a mission of service below is a sample of the service we perform.

Health Scholars Program (HSP) »

Founded in 2012, The Health Scholars Program (HSP) is dedicated to serving the underserved communities of Orange County. The program is housed in UCI Family Medicine with the idea of fostering guidance and mentorship from faculty to undergraduate Pre-health students. The idea is to create a supportive environment through leadership opportunities in order to empower the community at large. The program is mainly Pre-health student driven which has helped shape the direction of the projects at hand, which have always included health, wellness and prosperity in our underserved community. HSP remains as committed as ever to addressing the health disparities that plaque our county.

Dr. Marco Angulo, a graduate of our program,  founded the HSP program.  Dr. Elana Craemer now leads the way with this multifaceted program that not only is a mentoring program for students interested in the health field, but they provide many services to our patients including helping coordinate and deliver diabetes group visits, Zumba and yoga classes, stress relief, cooking classes and much more!
