UCI School of Medicine - Family Medicine TreeAbout Us

UCI Department of Family Medicine celebrates it's 50th anniversary!

The Department of Family Medicine is one of the first 15 family medicine programs in the nation, established in 1968 with the first residents beginning in 1969. Since that time, we have trained more than 400 family physicians!

The Department of Family Medicine is the academic home to nearly 30 faculty members who have a passion for patient care and medical education. Our mission is the same one that guides UCI School of Medicine: Discover. Teach. Heal. We are committed to the delivery of exemplary clinical care, advancing research and training future healthcare professionals.

Faculty members teach medical students at five sites: in Santa Ana and Anaheim, which are federally qualified health centers (FQHC), at Gottschalk Medical Plaza on the university campus in Irvine and at the SeniorHealth Center at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

We also have a diverse faculty, many of whom are bilingual and bicultural.

Our vision is to be among the top 10 departments in the country focusing on the delivery of healthcare to underserved populations. We have a residency program that is housed at the UCI Health Family Health Center in Santa Ana.
